Teacher Spotlight: Miss Nina ~ Imagination, Joy, and Connection
At Tutu School Tacoma, our classrooms are filled with laughter, imagination, and the kind of joyful energy that makes time seem to fly by. Dancers twirl, pretend, explore, and discover what their bodies can do—all while building confidence in a space that feels playful and welcoming.
At the heart of these moments are the teachers who bring them to life. This month, we’re so excited to shine a spotlight on Teacher Nina and the warmth, creativity, and connection she brings to our studio each week.
In Nina’s classes, learning and imagination go hand in hand. She describes her teaching style as “fun and structured,” creating a balance where dancers feel both supported and free to explore. She often invites dancers into the learning process, asking questions and encouraging them to think, respond, and take ownership of what they’re discovering.
The moments in my class that bring me the most joy are when I get to see the students use their imagination and be silly, or when their face lights up when getting a move right after working hard for it.

That sense of joy carries through to the end of each class.
I hope my students feel a sense of pride and joy when leaving my class. I adore hearing, ‘That class went by so fast!’ because it means they truly enjoyed it.
One of the most special parts of Nina’s teaching is the way she builds relationships with both dancers and their families. She especially loves working with younger dancers, where connection extends beyond the child and helps create a sense of trust and familiarity in the studio.
Over time, those relationships help dancers truly come into their own.
When students come back each week, I notice their confidence and comfort set in… it’s really precious to see a student come in so shy and, in a few weeks, they are leading and encouraging the other students.
In Nina’s classes, dancers don’t just grow individually—they grow together. Friendships begin to form, and students learn how to support and celebrate one another.

Her approach reflects something we value deeply at Tutu School: that learning can be both structured and joyful. Teaching has also shaped Nina in meaningful ways.
It’s helped me rediscover my inner child and spread some magic.
At its heart, Nina’s work reflects the magic of early dance experiences—where imagination, movement, and connection come together to create something truly special.
We are so grateful for the joy, creativity, and care Nina brings to Tutu School Tacoma and for the meaningful experiences she creates for our dancers and families each week.
Nina currently teaches at Tutu School Tacoma on Tuesday mornings, Friday afternoons, and Saturday afternoons, and we are so grateful for the energy she brings to those classes.
