Teacher Spotlight: Miss Jennalyn ~ Where Confidence Takes Flight

Every Tutu Teacher brings something uniquely their own to the classroom. Some have a gift for storytelling. Some make dancers laugh until they can’t stop smiling. Others have a special way of helping even the quietest dancers feel comfortable enough to join in.

This month, we’re excited to highlight Teacher Jennalyn and invite you to step into one of her classes. From Butterfly Circle to imaginative adventures, Jennalyn creates a space where young dancers feel encouraged to share their ideas, build confidence, and discover the joy of ballet.

Ask Jennalyn what her favorite part of class is, and she doesn’t hesitate.

“Butterfly Circle,” she says with a smile. “It brings me so much joy and laughter to hear all of the students’ creative ideas.”

If you stepped into one of Jennalyn’s ballet classes at Tutu School Renton, you’d quickly understand why. Butterfly Circle is one of the most anticipated moments of class, where each dancer has a chance to twirl around the circle while their classmates cheer them on. It’s a moment filled with imagination, one-on-one encouragement, and celebration as every child is given the opportunity to shine.

As dancers take their turns, Jennalyn celebrates each child’s unique ideas and helps every dancer feel seen, supported, and excited to participate. It’s one of the many ways she creates a classroom where confidence grows naturally, one twirl at a time.

That sense of belonging is something she hopes every dancer carries with them long after class ends.

“I hope my students leave class feeling confident, joyful, and proud of themselves,” Jennalyn shares. “I want them to come back excited to dance each week.”

One of the greatest joys of teaching, she says, is watching that excitement grow into confidence.

At the end of each month, I love seeing how much their confidence, ballet skills, and performance abilities have grown over time.

Week after week, she watches dancers become more willing to raise their hands, volunteer for a turn, and proudly demonstrate a new movement. Those quiet moments of growth are often the ones families notice too, as children begin carrying that confidence beyond the ballet studio.

Jennalyn describes her teaching style as adaptable and supportive. She loves using magical imagery to help dancers connect with movement while building a strong ballet foundation. Every child learns a little differently, and she enjoys finding creative ways to help each dancer experience success while keeping class playful and full of imagination.

The dancers aren’t the only ones who continue to grow.

Teaching at Tutu School has strengthened Jennalyn’s patience, creativity, and confidence as an educator. One of her biggest lessons came early in her teaching journey.

“Redirecting young dancers’ attention was challenging when I first started teaching,” she explains. “But as I became more comfortable and received support from my awesome team, I became more confident in problem-solving through difficult situations.”

That support is something she values deeply.

Feeling supported at Tutu School means knowing that I’m part of a team that genuinely cares about both students and teachers. I have amazing people who are willing to share ideas, offer feedback, and provide encouragement whenever it’s needed.

Jennalyn hopes she contributes to that same culture by creating a safe, positive learning environment where every child feels seen, supported, and encouraged to develop a lifelong love of ballet.

Outside the studio, Jennalyn enjoys spending time with friends and family. When she’s not dancing, you’ll often find her playing volleyball with friends or searching for a new matcha café to try.

She also hopes families know that beginning ballet is about so much more than learning steps.

“Young dancers build confidence, creativity, and important life skills, all while having fun,” she says. “The goal isn’t perfection. It’s helping young dancers discover a love for dance while giving them a positive space to learn, grow, and express themselves.”
